Baldivis Vet Hospital started in 1984 and moved to a new purpose built veterinary hospital in 2002. The Hospital is located in peaceful surrounds with ready access from Safety Bay Road via Baldivis Road. The hospital is on page 477 of the Perth UBD road directory and there are prominent signs at our entry from Baldivis Road.
Family Pets
Baldivis Vet Hospital has a large spacious waiting area and verandah. We have 3 large consulting rooms. We have three kennel areas, one for cats, one for dogs and isolation. We have three surgeries, a purpose built x-ray room, laboratory, laundry and pharmacy.
We have many types of diagnostic equipment including digital x-rays, ultrasound machines, laboratory equipment, video endoscopes, paediatric brochoscopes, otoscopes for examining ears and othalmoscopes for examining eyes. We have facilities for intensive care, intravenous infusion pumps fluid administration and a humidity crib. Ours surgeries have a full set of orthopaedic equipment to fix fractures, instruments for abdominal surgery and a comprehensive array of dental equipment.
Horses
Baldivis Vet Hospital has a large horse loading area suitable for horse trucks and floats. We have waiting yards and easy access to the hospital. The hospital has two large horse examination areas with horse stocks to restrain the horse for examination. We have an additional area to examine mares with foals at foot for breeding. Our lameness examinations usually take place on a 30m concrete raceway and /or the arena. We have a fully equipped horse surgery and padded anaesthetic recovery room. The horse hospital has 3 x-ray machines, digital x-ray processor, 3 ultrasound machines for tendon scans and reproductive work, video endoscope for respiratory work, video gastroscope to look for gastric ulcers, vehicles for stable visits, a laboratory and pharmacy.
We have two horse barns and isolation facility. The boxes are set up so that adult horses can be medicated with intra venous fluids for colic. We have a number of specialized areas for intensive treatment of foals. We have 12 irrigated grassed paddocks with shelter to house our patients during the day. The isolation facility has its own crush, boxes and adjoining irrigated yards.

The care and comfort of our patients is our focus at Baldivis Vet Hospital. Our vets are well qualified and proud to put the qualifications after their names. All of our Vets are committed to ongoing education by reading and attending courses where possible.
Dr Robert Davies BSc, BVMS (Hons), Member of Australian College of Veterinary Scientists (Equine Medicine), Certificate Equine Stud Medicine, Member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons.
Dr Rob founded Baldivis Vet Hospital in 1984. He is up to date with his continuing veterinary education (> 120 hours / 3 years ) and he is dedicated to keeping up with new developments in veterinary care and implementing new technologies for the diagnosis and treatment of all creatures great and small. Dr Rob has a special interest in horses
Dr Dan Joachim BSc, BVMS.
Dr Dan is an experienced veterinary surgeon with a special interest in family pets. He has been with Baldivis Vet Hospital since 2002 and is very popular. Dr Dan provides an excellent standard of veterinary care, whilst maintaining an empathetic and caring manner to pets and their owners. Dr Dan has a special interest in orthopaedic surgery, general surgery, dermatology and exotic pets.
Dr Les Brown BVSc.
Dr Les is an experienced veterinary surgeon who joined Baldivis Vet Hospital in 2004. Dr Les has gained extensive experience when working both in New Zealand and on the east coast of Australia including Scone in the Hunter Valley. Dr Les has a variety of interests including lameness in racehorses, respiratory problems in race horses, breeding horses, pleasure horse and family pets.
Dr Liz Woodberry BSc, BVMS.
Dr Liz joined the Baldivis team in 2007 and she has an interest in both family pets and horses. Dr Liz is a caring veterinary surgeon who is competent in medicine and surgery of family pets. Dr Liz has a background in horses having come from the Hunter Valley and a special interest in equine reproduction.
Dr Hubert Hiemstra BSc, MRCVS
Dr Hugh is a happy, smiling, enthusiastic veterinary surgeon. He has a special interest in diagnostic ultrasound and completed a year course in ultrasonography. Dr Hugh is experienced in surgery and medicine of family pets.
Dr Rita Alitalo BSc, BVMS
Dr Rita is always smiling and happy. Behind this smiling face is a dedicated veterinarian who is determined to make a difference to her patients.
Dr Rita works part time and she is available on Saturdays.
Dr John Buchanan BVSc
Dr John graduated from Melbourne University in 1979 and still has a passion for veterinary practice. Dr John enjoys treating dogs and cats, he enjoys meeting people and helping them with their pets and he provides an excellent standard of veterinary care. Dr John has a special interest in general surgery, dermatology and medicine.
Dr Peter Brigg BVMS, BSc. (Hons)
Dr Peter is an experienced and caring veterinary surgeon. His special interests are orthopaedic surgery, soft tissue surgery and medicine of family pets.
Our Nurses
Baldivis Vet Hospital is a happy place to work and our nurses have a passion for caring for our patients. Our nurses are either qualified or studying for their qualifications and most of our nurses are long time employees, many of whom have had children and returned to work.
