Vaccination

Feline Leukaemia Virus (FeLV) and Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) may be spread by cat bites. Most cats are at risk of being bitten by other cats at some time in their life so we recommend vaccination against these viruses. The FIV vaccination has only recently become available and many older cats are not vaccinated for this disease.

We recommend all cats are vaccinated with a Fe6 vaccine and this vaccination includes FeLV and FIV.

Adult Cat that is unwell

The first step in helping an unwell cat is to get a diagnosis. The first step in this process is a consultation and this may be followed by some diagnostic tests.

Consultations

All consultations are by appointment. Please let our reception staff know if the matter is urgent so they can make an appointment ASAP. All costs need to paid at the time of consultation. All in-hospital treatments and diagnostic tests need to be paid for prior to discharge from hospital.

To make an appointment, please phone 9524 1466.

We have loan cat cages so you will be able borrow one to get your cat from the car. There is plenty of space in our waiting room so you will be able to find a space to keep your cat out of the way of dogs. A consultation involves the Vet asking you about your concerns with your pet. The Vet examines your cat and together a course of action is decided upon. This action may involve diagnostic tests such as blood tests or in some cases treatment and monitoring the response to treatment. The consultation may include a cost estimate or some discussion regarding likely costs.

Diagnostic Tests

Laboratory Tests

Laboratory tests are often very important in diagnosis of illness in cats because of the prevalence of feline leukaemia virus, feline immunodeficiency virus and renal failure.

X-rays

Baldivis Vet Hospital has digital x-rays. The images from the digital x-rays help the vets in the diagnosis of various problems.

Ultrasound

Ultrasound is very useful to assist in the diagnosis of abdominal problems.

Medication

In some cases where the diagnosis is made on physical examination the response to medication is used as a semi diagnostic test.
