EQUINE VETERINARIAN

Raised in the Victorian high-country town of Mansfield with a thoroughbred racing stable in his back yard, horses were in the blood from a young age. During his younger years Jack participated in pony club, campdrafting, stockhorse challenges and general pleasure riding before riding trackwork for his father and trainer, Gerald Egan. Better known as the stunt double for Tom Burlinson in The Man From  Snowy River.

Jack completed his schooling in Mansfield before venturing to Charles Sturt University in Wagga Wagga to study Veterinary Science, graduating in 2017.  He then undertook a rotating equine internship at Goulburn Valley Equine Hospital. This opportunity provided an exponential learning curve and invaluable experience working alongside world-class specialists. He then spent 18 months at Gippsland Equine Hospital. In February 2020 Jack crossed the Nullarbor and moved to Western Australia for the next chapter at Baldivis Vet Hospital.

In 2021 Jack became a Member of the Australia New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists after completing examinations in Equine General Practice.

Jack was the Equine Veterinarians Young Member President for two terms from 2021 until 2023.

In 2022 Jack was awarded the The Ben Cunneen & Alister Rodgers Memorial Award for Outstanding Equine Veterinarians Australia Young Member. ‘This award will be given to an outstanding young member who has displayed promotion of the EVA and dedication to clinical practice, as well as meritorious industry and community involvement.’

Jack’s veterinary interests include reproduction, especially difficult mare breeders and stallion management, as well as racehorse and performance horse management to ensure elite performance at the top level.

Jack’s interests outside of work include football, cricket, water-skiing, horse racing and campdrafting.
